What you should know about Bush And Beyond Guided Walks
This area has one of the most diverse varieties of alpine flora to be found in New Zealand. 360 degree views can be seen from above the bush line Tasman Bay in one direction and mountain range upon mountain range of the interior of Kahurangi National Park in the other. A 1 hour drive from Motueka takes you up through the attractive beech forest of the Takaka Valley, from where we climb to approximately 1,250 m to come out on the Cobb Ridge. From here we will walk along the coastal section of the Heaphy to the Heaphy hut at the mouth of the Heaphy River.
Our guides are local people who have incredible knowledge of the flora and fauna, and extensive experience in Kahurangi. There is much to see in this area for anyone who is interested in the premature coal mining days of the West Coast. This will be our bottom for two nights and three days of exploration into the Park. From the nikau and karaka forest to the splendid West Coast beaches this complete day is certainly a highlight.
The two days will be spent meandering the valley and the nearby Mt Arthur track, looking at the flora and birds of the area. Appreciate a guided day walk to the top of Mt Arthur, Kahurangi National Park You may not have time to do a mufti day walk or hike but that doesn't malicious you can't get your boots on and appreciate a guided day walk. The track then climbs steadily to emerge onto the Tablelands, a vast alpine tussock plateau that offers you exquisite views of the Arthur Range, and a wonderful variety of alpine flora. On day two our walk, we spend the entire day exploring up the Heaphy River as far as the Lewis Hut, where the track then begins to climb to it's higher sections of the Mackay and Gouland Downs.

On all Fully Serviced trips clients carry their own personal equipment, e. On the succeeding trips, Bush Beyond guides will carry all food, cooking equipment and tents if needed Heaphy Track, Mt Arthur Tablelands, Upper Cobb, and Kahurangi Lighthouse. We will discard the evening in one of the huts in the area, depending on weather and your preferences.
